The Reunification of Jerusalem

The reunification of the city of Jerusalem with the state of Israel is both a Bible prophecy fulfilled and a direct message to the Gentiles (those that are not Jewish).  Recall, that in May of 1948 Israel became a nation again though the city of Jerusalem was divided.  Israel had control over the West part of the city and Jordan controlled the East part of Jerusalem.  The 6-Day War of 1967 changed everything dramatically.  From June 5th to the 10th in 1967 three armies (Egypt, Jordan, Syria) fought against Israel.  At the time, it was highly unlikely from a size and military standing that Israel would win.  To the world's surprise and truly miraculous fortune, Israel not only defeated three nations, it also more than doubled in land mass having won control over Jerusalem from Jordan among other key parts.  There are many in the military community that call the entire scenario a complete miracle.

     The Prediction

Luke 21:24 states the diaspora of the Jewish people as well as control over Jerusalem being taken away from Gentiles (non-Jewish people:  Luke 21:24 "They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled."  They is referring to the Jewish people being attacked by Rome where they were in fact scattered afar and control over Jerusalem was not in Jewish hands but rather trampled down (in Bible terms meaning controlled) by non-Jews as was the case for some two thousand years historically.

     The Prediction Happened

The fact of history is that after Israel defeated three armies in the Six-Day War, they regained control of the city of Jerusalem vindicating Luke's prophecy.  What is also interesting, is that Israel did this in six days and ceased from war on the seventh day--reminiscent in many respects to the creation account among other Biblical parallels.  Additionally, Luke also makes a startling admission to the gentiles in that once Jerusalem is back in Jewish hands, the times of the gentiles would be fulfilled.  The times of the gentiles being fulfilled simply means all the promises God makes them receiving redemption through Christ, and receiving eternal life with God is very soon to occur.
