Gog-Magog War

B4 Background.jpeg

The Gog-Magog prophecy is among the most interesting in the entire Bible.  Thousands of years ago a Jewish prophet named Ezekiel gave the prophecy.  Ezekiel describes a massive land invasion from a number of countries that will, in the latter days, attempt to destroy the nation of Israel and its people.  At the time of the writing God gives the names of the countries that existed at that particular time in history.  Today of course, these lands mostly have different names, but the territory locations described by God are the same.

The Prediction

Ezekiel 38 & 39 describes this massive war against Israel. "Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you."

"15 Thus says the Lord God: “On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it? 15 Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army. 16 You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

There a few things to keep in mind when reading this prophecy:

1.  All directions given in the Bible are in relation to Israel.  Place your finger on Jerusalem, and all directions given in scripture are in relation to this starting point.

2.  The prophecy will occur in the "latter days."  The latter days is a Bible phrase that is used to describe future events that occur at the very end of the world as we presently know it before the return of Jesus Christ.

3.  Ezekiel is the "Son of man" that God is speaking to. The prediction concerns a leader (Gog) and his land (Magog). Rosh refers to the present day land of Russia.  What makes this prediction so intriguing is that all the countries involved in this massive war are all (as of 2022) aligned, allied and have a common denominator of disliking Israel which God revealed to Ezekiel centuries ago.

The Prediction Taking Shape

It is encouraging and uplifting to witness Bible prophecy occur before our eyes.  Ezekiel's prediction states that the ruler in the far north will lead a massive army to invade and destroy the nation of Israel.  To the far north of Israel is the nation known as Russia--God refers to this country as the King of the North.  God also tells Ezekiel what countries are coming with Russia--the first named is Persia.  Present-day Iran was the Persian Empire until its fall.  It is a documented fact that Russia and Iran are allies and Russia has for years helped Iran with its military.  Iranian leadership has in the past publicly declared Israel should be wiped out--this dislike has a long history.  The other countries Ezekiel lists, Ethiopia (Arab Spring Nations), Libya (same), Gomer (Germany) and Togarmah (Turkey).  Isn't it interesting to know that Germany will once again come to destroy the Jewish people.  All these countries presently have or had in the past a burning desire to rid of Earth of the Jewish people.  As of this moment, the King of the North continues to move further and further into the Middle East with its military.  A simple Google search will reveal all of Russia's factual military alliances in this region.  Ezekiel's war will occur in the near future.  It is just a matter of when God wishes to accomplish the following:

1.  Awaken the Jewish people to His presence as their defender.  Recall, God told Ezekiel that He will be hallowed as a result of Him destroying  this massive invasion.  This will be the greatest show of God's deliverance of the Jewish people since the Old Testament when Egypt was destroyed in the days of Moses.

2.  Judgement to these nations for their transgressions to God's people.  God told Ezekiel, I will enter into judgement.  All these nations that God will destroy is due to their past afflictions to Israel and the Jewish people.

The Prediction in Completion

Ezekiel writes, “And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face. 19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great [e]earthquake in the land of Israel, 20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence."  When Russia leads this army to attack Israel, God's fury will be unleashed and He will supernaturally destroy the invaders to make His name known upon the Earth.
